Greetings
It is an honor and privilege to serve as the 103rd president of the New England Ophthalmological Society. Our organization is one of the oldest medical specialty societies in the country and is recognized nationally for its excellence. NEOS was established in 1884 and today, as then, we have remained true to our mission of educating our members and the public. I want to thank our Board, Committee Chairs, their members and our Executive Assistant Judy Cerone Keenan for all their hard work and dedication. Our society could not function without them. I encourage all members to become involved – serve on a committee, become a speaker or moderator. We can only improve as a society with your help. To better serve your needs we will be sending out a survey on-line. Please take the time to reply, we need your input.
My goals as President for the coming year include:
· Continue our outstanding educational programs
· Increase our membership
· Strengthen the Educational Endowment Fund
· Expand the services we provide our membership on our website
The October meeting’s educational program looks outstanding. The morning session is on Retina and our distinguished Guest of Honor is Dr. Lawrence Yannuzzi. In addition we are honored to have Dr. Donald D’Amico present the Taylor Smith lecture. The afternoon session is devoted to Uveitis, a topic which is of interest to all of us. Dr. Emmett Cunningham, a recognized expert in the field, is the Guest of Honor.
NEOS has been in existence for 125 years! We are celebrating this milestone in conjunction with the 725th meeting on May 29, 2009. That evening we have planned a Gala Dinner Dance. Details will be coming later. Please plan to attend and support your Society.
