Dear Prospective Member:

We are glad you are interested in our membership page. The New England Ophthalmological Society is a public foundation devoted to continuing education and public education in ophthalmology. We hope to increase the exchange of ideas on scientifically based medical practice in an atmosphere of collegiality and mutual respect. We would like to have the broadest possible representation, and we encourage you to ask your colleagues about the benefits of membership.

Eligibility for membership in NEOS is defined below, but let me first tell you the benefits of joining our illustrious, 124-year-young organization!

Members of NEOS:

  • Stay informed about practice management issues per our Ophthalmic Services committee, which keeps members up-to-date on vital reimbursement, practice, and patient care issues
  • Participate in leadership of a 700-member organization
  • Participate in vital public education via our Public Health and Education Committee
  • Network with colleagues at meetings
  • Learn and share information via this website.

We hope you will read the following information in detail and consider seeking membership with the New England Ophthalmological Society.

Sincerely,

Mitchell Gilbert, MD
Chairman, Admissions Committee

Membership Information:

You are eligible for membership in NEOS if you are a board-certified ophthalmologist who has resided or practiced in New England for at least 2 years.

You must be proposed by a member and seconded by another member. After nomination at the business meeting, an application will be sent to you for completion by you and your sponsoring ophthalmologists. This is then forwarded to the Chairman of the Admissions Committee:

Mitchell Gilbert, MD
NEOS
P.O. Box 9165
Boston, Mass 02114

We also require letters of recommendation from the sponsoring and seconding ophthalmologists. Your name will be circulated to the NEOS membership for comments pro and con.

The Admissions Committee reviews your certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology or the Royal College of Surgeons (Canada), as well as members' comments, and then submits its recommendation to the Executive Board. Your name is published in the meeting program and is presented to the entire membership at the business meeting for a final vote. If you are approved, membership commences with payment of dues.

If you have any questions or would like an application for membership, please Email your request or questions to Mitchell Gilbert, MD. Thank you.
