Prospective members

We are glad you are interested in membership. The New England Ophthalmological Society is a public foundation devoted to continuing education and public education in ophthalmology. We hope to increase the exchange of ideas on scientifically based medical practice in an atmosphere of collegiality and mutual respect. We would like to have the broadest possible representation, and we encourage you to ask your colleagues about the benefits of membership.

Application process

1. The proposed candidate must be Certified in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology or the Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.

2. The proposed candidate must have resided and/or practiced ophthalmology in New England for the two years prior to being nominated.

3. A member of NEOS must nominate the proposed candidate at the Business Meeting to the Chairman of the Admissions Committee.

4. A member of NEOS must second the nomination.

5. An application form, which will be sent to the candidate following nomination, must be completed by the candidate and the sponsoring and seconding members and forwarded to the Chairman of the Admissions Committee.

6. Letters of recommendation must be submitted by the sponsoring and seconding members to the Chairman of the Admissions Committee.

7. The candidate's name will then be circulated to the entire membership for comments pro and con admission.

8. The Chairman of the Admissions Committee will ascertain that the candidate is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and evaluate any comments received.

9. The Admissions Committee submits recommendations to the Executive Board.

10. The candidate's name will be published in the program and be voted upon at a subsequent meeting by the entire membership.

11. Membership commences with payment of dues.
